Shared on a thread about the “deep state”:
The so-called Deep State brings to mind Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poem “The Kraken”:
Below the thunders of the upper deep,
Far, far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumbered and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge sea worms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.

Lit Crit Through A Biblical Lens
Through the lens of end-times prophecy, many curious readers perceive a certain “fiery destruction” heating up just now to consume such a modern-day entity (lurking in a deep state of its own) that presumes it has been/is oh, so safely hidden in its secret cells and grots of power and greed, fattening up on whatever floats by.
This Kraken surfacing to view just now that presumed it was safe below with all the other bottom feeders can’t hide forever ’cause comes a day it will be fully uncovered and consumed in a hot, roaring, cataclysm of biblical, not just civil, proportions…
Side note: maybe the real global warming today’s brand of Kraken insists is destroying everything (so we should just give it all our money so it can “solve” the problem for us) is really that which comes with the stink of sulfur and brimstone–
–but, little does this Kraken know (apparently), the real destroyer is coming for them not us.
For the real Kraken (of any era) to which Tennyson alludes suffers no competition and has never been in the business of solving problems, rather, he IS the problem by means of whatever he can get away with via the cooperation of human cohorts.
