ABOUT THE BLOGGER
Phyllis Beveridge Nissila became a Christian in November, 1973. She hasn’t looked back since. She believes in, adheres to, and writes with regard to the core tenets of Christianity:
• God is a trinity of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
• Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
• He was born of a virgin.
• He died for our sins.
• He rose again to life and sits at the right hand of God.
• He sent the Holy Spirit, Who glorifies Him, to lead and guide His Church.
• He is coming back again.
• “Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, KJV)

Writing
Phyllis is a free-lance and sometimes contracted writer. Her articles, features, devotionals, public relations pieces, commentaries, editorials, and regular, award-winning newspaper (humor) columns have appeared in local, national, and international markets over the past thirty years. She is the author of Sentence CPR, Breathing Life Into Sentences That Might As Well Be Pushing Up Daisies, 2010, Cottonwood Press/Prufrock Press and How to Learn Like a Pro! , an open source textbook for college level effective learning/study skills courses. She sells individual humor-based language arts lesson plans, geared for grades 7-adult, on TeachersPayTeachers.com, and she has written many devotionals over the years for Standard Publishing’s devotionals publication, Cook Communications’ The Quiet Hour, and for Warner Press. Her inspirational articles and features have appeared in numerous Christian markets including Our Family, Virtue, Live, Herald of Holiness, Sunday Digest, and others.
Teaching
Phyllis is a retired teacher living in the Pacific Northwest. She taught for thirty-five years, beginning her career in the field of special education. She subsequently taught middle and high school language arts, writing, study skills, and literature including Advanced Placement Literature, and A.P. Composition. After that she was a community college instructor (15 years) where she taught writing, effective learning, college and career preparatory classes, and Citizenship classes.
Other Work
In the early eighties Phyllis worked for a ministry that focused on counseling people out of cults and the occult (Christian Orientation, Research and Evangelism). In her role as all-purpose office assistant, keeper of the files, and newsletter writer she became familiar with the encroachment of such groups in the church. She has maintained an interest in this topic ever since and from time to time writes about various aspects of the phenomenal increase in this activity in the church today. She also worked for an international adoption agency for several years.
Education
I hold a BA in Management of Human Resources from George Fox University and an MA in Humanities from California State University. However, as useful as the letters are and as much as I gleaned from the coursework (and numerous additional courses and credits in the field of education and educational psychology including several courses toward a PhD in Education) I have found that my best source of guidance, knowledge, and wisdom is God’s Word. And it is available right now, free for the asking, to all who seek Him, no matter the age or any other status.

Phyllis … wondering if you’ve done any research/writing on … wisdom as a woman … Holy Spirit … wisdom/Holy Spirit present at creation … ? Or can you recommend any further reading on the paths on which these two topics might be intertwined? I have some ideas, but not fully developed. I want to read others opinions, theories, etc.

Thanks for thinking of me for this project. I love your concept and I think it will be something beautiful to explore. I can’t off hand think of any specific article or book on the feminine aspect of wisdom present at creation, etc. (but I will bet there is a lot out there.) Surely, if God has created unique masculine and feminine creatures, and masculine/feminine metaphors abound in Scripture, you will likely have a good time researching this.
I look forward to your results, if you decide to publish them.

Another sister, Barb, took the shot of the cherry blossoms. She lives in Washington. Where I live in Oregon we are also blessed with many now-blooming cherry trees; however, that is the reason most of us are also sneezing and taking allergy meds:). I often feature Barb’s photographs. I also have a few from one of my brothers that I will put up in the future. Having ten talented siblings comes in handy.
