…The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug. (Mark Twain)
The excitement of recent years in the world of Artificial Intelligence is that it can just-about, almost-maybe, figure out and replicate the context of human communications.*
I use the term “replicate” because nothing AI does is organic,
that is to say, “developed” like, in this case, the instructions already “knit together” inside a mother’s womb by our Creator, as opposed to banged together with nuts and bolts and bits and bytes inside a brick-and-mortar lab, although the people who can figure out how to do that do some pretty impressive work, especially at the quantum level.
But in the case of becoming human 2.0, they need a template.
Us.
And so far, all they can do is window(s) shop, as it were.
Whereas our Creator, God, didn’t need a template because we didn’t originate in a lab, rather, from a place outside of the limitations of time, space, matter–brick and mortar.
God merely spokeHis “inventions” into existence (no patents, beta tests, pre-existing apps needed!).
You might say God IS the lab, pulsing and generating within Himself all things required to create and operate His magnificent universe (and who knows, maybe others!).
And, of course, God’s creation includes all the raw materials with which mankind has ever needed to invent anything of our own–including our best effort at replicating ourselves.
God even created “he who thinks he can compete with God,” i.e., the Devil. You know who–he who quickly rebelled and who has been working an anti-God and anti-human agenda ever since.
But, of course, to a more important point: the created can never be greater than its/his/her Creator.
AND–to the most important point of all–there is one thing vital to the efficacy of being at the top of the creation chain, to being a human being “made in the image of God“: our ability to glean context, a baked-in, human-only ability that is infinitely more powerful than merely observing, analyzing, copying, and multiplying, micro or macro, quantum or cumulative.
Particularly when we yield to Christ’s invitation to become “born again“** at which time He also gifts us with the Holy Spirit Who is sent to teach, lead, and guide us in the ways of new spiritual life.
On Both Natural and Supernatural Context Clues
Our natural power of discerning context involves not only the cognitive abilities residing in our brain such as reasoning, deciphering the meaning of non-verbal communication (which is, some say up to even 90% of all communication), our ability to gather hints and clues and evidence about context from not merely our five senses or calculating power but clues from myriad other sources including our psyche, emotions, nature and nurture advantages or disadvantages, culture and civilization, and so on–many of which might even seem completely random at the time of input.
Our “supernatural” power, on the other hand, comes from the Holy Spirit gifted us at salvation and infused in every word of God for our instruction and inspiration. As put in Hebrews 4:12:
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
And heart, or attitude and motivating spirit, is everything when it comes to discerning how to stay on the straight and narrow path of truth, light, and life in a hostile world filled with those ever trying to pull us off.
(Could that be why in virtually every revolution initiated by totalitarians, dictators, fascists, communists, and such like, Bibles are among the first books on the burn piles? Methinks yes.)
According to God’s design for us, this ability to glean greatest context, both natural and supernatural, enables us to “get it” faster than a speeding metaphor, to become more powerful than a mother’s raised eyebrow at her misbehaving kids, and to leap over even the tallest of tall tales and deceptions in a single “gut feeling”–or powerful word from the Word of God.
Because, if we listen to God’s Spirit, it’s all signal and no noise, as they say, in the transmission, and there is infinite band width.
NOTE: spiritual discernment does not operate in all people, however, but it is available to all whosoever will believe and receive it. Consider 1 Corinthians 2:14:
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. (See more about the Holy Spirit below.***)
Or as put in John 14:16-17, which chronicles when Jesus promised this gift just before His ascension back to heaven after His mission was accomplished here:
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
Close But No Cigar
You, AI, are indeed brilliant and getting more so every day, not to mention especially now that you have access to us “beneath the skin,” so to speak, by means of chips and/or quantum operating systems of some sort (see previous post for references to this as well as this interesting article).
But, as the old ad for Chiffon margarine put it, “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature.”
Only in this case, to keep trying to fool Father God–and His top-of-the-line creation, humans.
You might be able to be programmed up to the point of almost a reasonable facsimile of human beings, but your ultimate quest will be fruitless. See “end times prophecy” (although I doubt your programmers will have logged this data cache into your CPU.)
You will end up twisting in a hot wind, connections fried, human handlers heading for the hills, when the lightening–in this case, bolts–of God’s wrath rain down.
Dear AI, “You keep using that word [‘context’]. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

If you get my drift.
UPDATE, MAY 18, 2022: ‘The Game is Over!’ Google’s DeepMind says it is close to achieving ‘human-level’ artificial intelligence – but it still needs to be scaled up’ (but still no cigar…)
