To The Cross (poem)

Phyllis Beveridge Nissila

To The Cross

Some come early,

some come mid;

some come in the nick of life–

finally knowing Him nearby–

as the Good Thief did.

Some come joyful

some in grief;

some in waning reverie

glimpse the ethereal light and ask,

Is there a place for me?

And Jesus says,

Yes, yes, yea!

I’ve been waiting all this time

to see for whom I paid the price,

for whom my blood bought grace,

for whom I showed

the Father’s love

in flesh and blood like you

a priceless coin paid in your stead

that you’d come home to us.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—Ephesians 2:8
