Phyllis Beveridge Nissila
I had this post prepared as a stand-alone, but it seems a fitting follow-up to yesterday’s post on my Memorial Day summary of the kind of ship my father served on in World War II. His ship, the USS Ulvert M. Moore, was one of the “tin can” destroyer escorts sent to the South Pacific theater in 1944. I included an article on the so-called “little ships” along with a summary of my father’s service then, and some encouragement for us today.
On “the Navy’s scratch force of destroyers and destroyer escort carriers,” as writer Elise Cooper describes them in the article I cited yesterday, “Unbelievably […they] chased off the entire Japanese battle fleet, though at great cost.” They accomplished this to many people’s surprise for such small boats with no armor around the “tin can” exterior.
It occurred to me that each of us in our small theater of operations, so to speak, at home, work, or school, can also accomplish a lot both in the secular and spiritual realms in which we serve. Today’s post reflects this encouragement while also covering the formidable ideological enemy we face.
Although prophetically we may be at both a secular and spiritual “end of an age”; nevertheless, there is still some important “occupying” we can each do.
In the parable below where the “nobleman” is a type of the post-crucifixion, ascended Christ yet to return, Jesus commissions His followers–and us:
[Jesus] said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. (Luke 19:12-13, KJV)
On Our Commisions
1) Linked below is a radio broadcast from 5/25/18 produced by Olive Tree Ministries hosted by Jan Markell. The program is the second of a two-part series called “Endgame: The New World Order, Part 2”. Part 1 is linked here. Markell’s guest is filmmaker Curtis Bowers who speaks, in part, from his two-part DVD series “Agenda: Grinding America Down.”
Most of the interview concerns how communism* has been gradually infiltrating and influencing the United States for decades, in banking, government, education, even churches and seminaries primarily through “social justice” programs and certain controversial environmentalist causes such as Global Warming, now called Climate Change.
But it’s the final two anecdotes that will inspire and encourage you if you feel as if your part in the Great Commission is insignificant.
In the big scheme of things, no matter how brief or how small your part, every single believer’s participation is significant.

On The KGB’s Long Plan
*2) For those who have not heard any lectures or interviews on the details of the, “long march” of communism through the institutions of this nation, I invite you listen to, “G. Edward Griffin’s shocking video interview, Soviet Subversion of the Free-World Press (1984), where he interviews ex-KGB officer and Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov who decided to openly reveal KGB’s subversive tactics against western society as a whole.” (quoted from the YouTube summary, below).
