A couple of people have asked me to publish a follow-up–should I get one–to my recent post re: a woman caught in the middle of the Hurricane Irma. She is O.K.! Here is her post-hurricane email–and her thanks to well-wishers and pray-ers (the bolding is mine):
I had set up an inner room walk in closet with pillows and blankets. It got really bad here at 11 p.m. Saturday, thought my door was going to burst open. Can hear trees snapping, debris flying and hitting things. The wind howls like a train. Got into the center of the Eyewall around 2:30 a.m, came out of the closet. It slowed down for awhile, then picked up again as the Eyewall passed and I went back inside…
My county was one of the worst hit and it’s been declared a major disaster zone by FEMA. All’s well with me, though. Lots of trees down on my street, a few on houses. Saw lamposts and things like that knocked down, garages bashed in, etc. Lots of flooding in the entire area, but not on my street.
Been cleaning up debris, helping neighbors, etc. with debris. My city’s on curfew, there’s been looting, and we lost power and internet for a few days, and the water pumps failed, so our water is unsafe to touch right now. Have plenty of bottled water though. And debris is everywhere!
And thank you again to everybody for all the well wishes! It means more to me than you’ll ever know.
Yeah! I love happy endings! 😊

Wow. That must have been a truly horrific experience for her and countless others. I’m glad the poor woman and her dog are alright. It is in these situations that we see the best and the worst in people. I am always saddened to see people looting and stealing, exploiting a terrible situation to serve themselves, while others are risking their lives and even leaving their own loved ones to help those who need it. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s still disheartening.
Nevertheless, although the economic and structural toll is huge, it is almost miraculous that more people did not lose their lives in those terrible storms.
Thank you for the update. Now the clean-up and recovery begins…

Hi, Cindy.
Yes! The clean-up…
As in Houston, however, a lot of people are contributing and, once again, the generosity and compassion of MOST Americans going quietly about helping their neighbors shines through!
A news commentator recently wondered what amazing things could happen if the haters joined the helpers in this nation…
Ultimately, we know through prophecy that good will prevail, but in the meantime what good could overpower evil right now, too!
And, does.
I makes me happy, however, that the news of Antifa-inspired violence that I am sure some of them wanted to dominate news cycles and engender even more fear and division has been overpowered by “Mother Nature,” if you will, who has definitely grabbed all the headlines. In that way, a little silver lining–and the encouragement of all the helpers.
The looters? Well, not new news, sadly…
