A little while ago I called to check on what time the technician would arrive to perform maintenance on the heat pump. The receptionist answered the phone with, to close, “How can we make you smile today?”
I not only smiled, I laughed out loud. “You already have,” I said.
And how often do we hear that sort of thing in these days of doom and gloom?
A quick scan across radio, television, twitter, Facebook, email, and all other communication media reveals common themes: bad news, worse news, or even, Armageddon is at hand! (But act now and get not only the survival pack but also a five-year supply of tin foil!)
As my then, two-year-old daughter said on viewing Dracula in a long ago visit to a wax museum, “Whoa, ‘cary,” in her little voice as she buried her face in my shoulder and we left the very realistic scene.
But for Christians, the news is still good. Consider (and repeat at will):
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV).
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).
And if all of the “end times” commotion, at least the end of the Church Age commotion, is indeed upon us don’t forget this:
“But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near”-Jesus (Luke 21:28 NASB).
Let Him make YOU smile, today!
