RFID or GFID: Who’s Tracking You? (Devotional)

Phyllis Nissila

THE “BIG BROTHER”?

Technology geeks are thrilled with the latest human locator devices. The rest of us not so much.

We are all familiar with street cameras, magnetic strips in credit and debit cards, and airport scanners that link us to the DMV, banks, advertisers, and peeping NSA agents. But Big Brother is up closer and much more personal these days.

In the Brave New World of the twenty-first century it is now possible to track you, yes, YOU! via face, iris, and palm “prints” [1]. And my geek friends tell me that mere three-way Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) capability will soon be sooooo twentieth century…

I remember the first time it really hit me mankind had stepped off the farm and onto the grid. (Insert background music from The Twilight Zone here: http://YouTube/watch?v=-b5aW08ivHU).

Picture a woman on an ordinary day walking into her neighborhood grocery store. She thinks she’s here to pick up a carton of milk, a loaf of bread, and a stick of butter. Little does she know she’s stepped into another dimension…

She untangles a shopping basket from the stack, pulls out her grocery list, and looks up.

Behold!

They are installing bar code scanners! She has no clue at that time what they are called! She doesn’t care! She only knows this is somehow the beginning of the end! She’s read the Book of Revelation! She knows tech geeks!…

She desperately wants to hop up on the checkout counter, grab a microphone, and holler, “People! Do you know what’s happening, here? It’s the beginning of the end!”

But she doesn’t want to be heavily medicated and carted off!

She quietly heads for the bakery department, jaw still in dropped position…

ANOTHER BIG BROTHER?

Even as I type this on my old laptop (with or without a tinfoil hat) I know somebody has the capability of tracking each and every key stroke I make, maybe even knows I am in my old pajamas and haven’t yet brushed my teeth or combed my hair. (Track at your own risk.) And although I still cringe slightly at the invasive capabilities of modern engineering, I’ve stepped off the fear grid.

How?

Through knowledge of another “tracking device,” that is to say, Somebody Else Who knows me well (God Frequency Identification, or GFID, you might say). But in contrast to the technologically- limited know-it-all’s, God has known me a lot longer and He knows me a lot better [2].

In addition, in contrast to the controversial purposes to which man-made trackers might be put, the plans which my GFID has for me are good (see Jeremiah 29:11) because He sent Jesus to pay my sin debt. I’ve read the Book. (Insert background music of the “Halleluiah Chorus” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXh7JR9oKVE ).

Thank you! And Happy Thanksgiving! It’s too bad so many people now disparage this fine tradition. A preacher I was listening to this morning reminds us that as believers, even if things look bleak, we still have much to be thankful for. And then we can know that “the joy of the Lord is our strength.”

Here in my house, the Turkey Ritual commences in approximate an hour. Twenty pounds of him to prep and then roast for six and one-half hours. With the parade on in the background :). Stuffing courtesy of Betty Crocker…

My new “gravatar” is me, circa 1961 or so…throwing attitude through the mists of time. For some reason, I thought that straw hat was the bomb back then…
    Blessings,

I love the concept of GFID…..He has known me before the foundations of the Earth! He knows Everything I do or Say….He is my Abba Father!
As far as “Mans Surveillance”….creepy and satanic, and it is One World Government forming, before our Duped Eyes! Nobody admits it for fear of being labeled “Crazy”……but as Christ would say, “Have No Fear!”
